The National Bowl
Location
Between Watling Street (V4) and Chaffron Way (H7).
Description
Plans include:
- Increasing the capacity of the Arena from 65,000 to 75,000, plus some catering facilities
- New Bowl pavilion suitable for staging events all year round for up to 2,000 people.
- Permanent skateboarding park, built to international specifications with the aim of using this as a skateboarding display arena, potentially in association with the 2012 Olympics.
- New MK Greyhound Stadium – will have a maximum total capacity of 3,500 with restaurant and bars.
- Significant improvements to the Route 51 cycle route and wildlife corridor, which passes through the site. Also the addition of a children’s playground and amenities, such as cafes and permanent toilets.
Development Stage
A resolution to grant Outline Planning Consent, subject to a section 106 agreement, was passed in February 2007 by Milton Keynes Council. The developer is now working on detailed applications for each of the phases.
Start Date
Work on the Bowl Arena will commence in 2009.
Completion Date
The final phase is expected to complete in 2012.

Pre-application public consultation took place from 16 March to 26 May 2006. Further formal consultation occurred during the outline application consultation process. There will be further opportunity for public comment as the scheme evolves through detailed planning applications.
