Planning Process

Validation

When planning applications are submitted to MKP, an initial check is made to ensure that all the information required to allow MKP to make a decision has been submitted. The application is validated when all information has been received.

Consultation / comment

Following validation, consultations are undertaken; these include statutory bodies, such as the Highway Authority and the Internal Drainage Board. Consultations are also undertaken with parish councils, ward members and neighbours. The normal period for consultation is 21 days, and further consultation may be undertaken if the planning application is amended. MKP will acknowledge any representations made. All representations received are reported to the Planning Sub-Committee.

The decision-making process

Decisions about planning applications are made by the Planning Sub-Committee, to which officers submit reports containing a recommendation to either approve or refuse the application. All persons making representations on a planning application will be notified of the decision.
