New linear park set to grow at Brooklands
Brooklands Meadows, the area that will create a new linear park and incorporate features to provide flood protection for the new community of 2501 homes in the Eastern Expansion Area, has been granted planning consent by Milton Keynes Partnership Committee (MKPC).
The 9.3 ha park will include a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) with balancing ponds that have been designed to fill up and store surface water runoff from the nearby housing during wet weather.Other features of the linear park will include equipped play areas, an orchard, timber boardwalks through a wet woodland area and permanent semi-circular ponds.
Lindsey Richards, Development Control Manager for Milton Keynes Partnership, said:“We have worked closely with Milton Keynes Council, The Parks Trust and the Internal Drainage Board to ensure that Brooklands Meadows will provide an attractive area of parkland that local people can enjoy, as well as reducing the risk of flooding for the new homes that will be built.”
Work is underway to clear the site and the material from this clearance will be re-used for the construction of the Brooklands Ridge. The construction of Brooklands Meadows is expected to take around nine months to complete.
